** Pre-Swim Team is open for the Public**

Pre-Swim Team is for children who have passed Stages 4, 5, and/or 6 or who meet the eligibility requirements. This class-swim clinic hybrid is intended for those who have interest in joining the Blair Regional YMCA Tigersharks Swim Team. A YMCA and/or USA swimming certified coach will be overseeing this course. The coach will be teaching primarily from deck, with some in water instruction. This course introduces drills and techniques that are regularly used in the competitive swimming environment. Skills focused on include but are not limited to: Freestyle with flip-turns, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly, as well as introducing competitive dives. Class goal is to enable students to develop a mastery of swimming through stroke development, mechanics and techniques while incorporating prior knowledge of water safety skills. ***Please note: No floatation devices will be used in these classes. Also, skills taught are not limited to the above mentioned.

The Coach will evaluate each student’s readiness for the team on an individual basis:

• Those who need further swimming development before joining the team will be recommended to enroll in Advanced swim lessons (Stages 5 or 6) and are encouraged to join Pre-Swim Team again in the Fall.
• Anyone who passes the Pre-Swim Team Lessons and is recommended to the BRY Tigersharks Swim Team will receive a $50 credit to the upcoming season!

Eligibility

• Must have passed either Stage 4, 5 or 6, passed deep water swim test, or given permission by current instructor. Those who sign up for Pre-Swim Team without passing Stage 4 or higher will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, and recommended the appropriate class
• Must be ages 5-up years old
• Must comfortable around other children and with an adult other than their parents
• Able to take and listen to instructions in a group setting
• Must be able to swim 1 or more lengths of lap pool unassisted

Rules

• Lessons must be paid in full prior to start of first lesson
• Due to limited space on deck and other patrons using the pool, we ask that parents watch their children from outside through the windows.
• Please make sure your child meets the requirements/eligibility before signing them up for a certain class.
• Failure of child to listen to instruction, not work in a group setting, or causes multiple disruptions of class, may result in child being removed from class. If you feel your child would be more comfortable with one on one vs group please check out our private lessons
• Missed lessons on the part of the student will not be made up or credited/refunded. However. Missed lessons due to weather, instructor absences, or BRY closer will credited/refunded. Front desk will handle credits/refunds.
